What Is Shapes to Forms? Shapes to Forms offers group courses in fashion design and construction for students ages 9 - 14+. All courses are held in the San Diego area. The curriculum teaches the fundamentals of garment construction and pattern making while applying math concepts learned in school. Through project-based learning and application, your student goes through the process of transforming 2D fashion sketches into a completed 3D garment and accessory.

Located in La Jolla Cove, take personalized and small classes starting in December 2024! Classes for all ages including youth, teens and adults! Check out the semester long courses or monthly classes and pop-ups!
Simple Sewing Pop-Ups (ages 7+) - Join us every 3rd Saturday or Sunday of the month for a fun, hands-on sewing workshop designed for all skill levels! Create a simple, unique themed project in just two hours while learning basic sewing techniques. Perfect for families, friends, or solo creators looking for a creative outlet. Materials and tools are included—just bring your imagination! Dates vary. Sign Up!
Sew Fun! (ages 7-9) - Designed for young designers, this class will explore the art of fabric manipulation, learn essential hand-stitching techniques, and create unique projects that spark their imagination. This fun, hands-on class builds confidence and introduces a lifelong skill in a supportive, creative environment. Projects vary monthly. Some sample projects may include stuffed animals, tote bags or scrunchies. All tools, equipment, and materials included. Check out times!
Sewing Studio (ages 9-14) - Perfect for aspiring designers, this class introduces essential hand-stitching techniques, the basics of machine sewing, and creative fabric manipulation. Students will gain confidence while crafting unique projects such as bags, pajama pants, and upcycled designs, turning old materials into something new and stylish. Projects vary monthly. All tools, equipment, and materials included. Check out times!
Fashion Club (ages 9-14) - Take this semester long course that introduces students to the basics of sewing, illustration, draping, and patternmaking while exploring the intersection of art, design, and STEM concepts. Each session features hands-on projects, such as hand sewing, machine sewing, sketching, designing and constructing garments or accessories. All materials are provided! 15 classes. Sign Up!
Teen Design (ages 13-17) - Unleash your inner fashion designer in this creativity-driven class focused on conceptualizing and designing fashion! Teens will dive into the art of sketching fashion figures, exploring color theory, fabric types, and trends to craft their unique vision. Through hands-on activities like creating mood boards, designing original collections, and exploring pattern-making from a design perspective, students will learn how to bring their ideas to life. Perfect for aspiring designers, this class emphasizes creativity, visual storytelling, and the broader aesthetic of fashion design—all materials included! 7 classes. Sign Up!
The Beginner’s Stitch (adult) - Always wanted to learn how to sew but didn’t know where to start? This beginner-friendly class is perfect for adults ready to dive into the world of sewing! In this hands-on course, you’ll learn essential sewing skills, from understanding your machine to mastering basic stitches and creating simple projects. Projects vary monthly. Sipping & Sewing (adult) - Unwind and unleash your creativity! Join us on the second Friday of each month for an evening of sewing and relaxation. Designed for adults, this class offers a fun, laid-back environment to work on a small project—perfect for beginners or seasoned makers. Enjoy provided materials, light bites and refreshments as you stitch your way to a finished creation. No experience necessary; just bring your enthusiasm! Sounds like fun! Sign me up!

Take your sewing skills to the next level with exciting new projects! In this class, students will build on their sewing fundamentals and machine skills while exploring fun, creative designs. From crafting adorable stuffed animals to transforming denim into unique creations and upcycling materials into fresh, stylish pieces, each project offers a new challenge. Beginners welcome!

An introductory patternmaking class designed for teens. The course will cover the basics of using geometry concepts to create patterns for clothing.
By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the basics of sewing and how geometry concepts can be used to create simple and stylish clothing items. They will also have hands-on experience in creating simple garments using their own patterns.
